A Good Day on the Green
About the Book
Teeing up with her best friend Olivia, Audrey takes her first swing—and misses. On the sidelines, Audrey’s dad and Olivia cheer her on, encouraging her to try again. And this time, she makes a superb swing. Audrey, Olivia, and their dads continue to play the game with successes and mistakes alike, all the while enjoying the beautiful nature and each other’s company. A Good Day on the Green is an inspirational tale teaching golf etiquette and basic terminology while encouraging beginners not to feel intimidated trying out a new sport. It’s not about being the best player but about the joyous, memorable time spent playing outside with your loved ones.

Golf is for everyone!
They all hop into the carts and head to the tee box of the first hole to tee off. This is where everyone starts the game.
“Now, remember what we discussed, Audrey,” Dad reminds her as he gets ready to take the first swing. Audrey nods.
Know the rules of the fairway.
It’s so quiet that Audrey can hear birds chirping and singing in the trees. Birds always make Audrey feel happy.
She spots a red cardinal. It whistles a clear melody that sounds like it’s saying, “Birdie-birdie-birdie.”
The birdsong helps her forget how much she is dreading her own tee shot.
After their dads go, it’s the girls’ turn to tee up.
Audrey’s hands shake as she grabs her driver, golf ball, and a golf tee.
Be a cheerleader!
Olivia takes a practice swing, which makes a swishing sound through the still air. Then, she places her ball gently on the tee, steps up with her club, takes a swing, and hits the ball down the fairway and out of sight.
“Whoa! Great drive, Olivia,” says Audrey, now really feeling the pressure.
“Thanks, Audrey!”
Golf tip #5
Have fun! Golf is not about how you play but who you’re with.
Golf tip #4
Order of play. The player in the group whose ball is farthest from the hole goes first.
Golf tip #3
Pace of play. Do not disrupt the games of other players in your group by taking too long.
Golf tip #2
Be courteous. Make sure to be quiet and still when someone is hitting the ball.
Golf tip #1
Dress code. Every course has its own rules on how players should be dressed, and most require a collared shirt. The typical golf attire for girls is a collared shirt, shorts or a skirt, and golf or athletic shoes.
